Stuff I Thought While Reading

What’s This All About?

I wouldn’t call myself an avid reader, but I do enjoy reading, especially on my subway commutes to and from work (about 35-40 minutes each way).

I once prided myself in reading at least one or two books a month and kept a neat list to track my progress. But over time, the quantity of what I read didn’t really amount to much because I would just move on to the next book making no effort to reflect, in writing, what I had read and the things that crossed my mind. With this blog, I will hopefully do a better job of taking the time to think about the things I read during the day.

This isn’t a blog about books although I will hopefully write a good deal about them. My goal isn’t to give in-depth summaries or write sophisticated reviews. My approach will be to write about a few things that occurred in my mind while I read a certain passage, chapter, or entire story. Some of my thoughts may be connections I draw from the text to my personal life. Some thoughts may be more general or about current events. Other thoughts may inspire additional investigation. And a few thoughts might just be plain silly. I may write about: works of fiction, non-fiction, poetry (though unlikely), magazine and newspaper articles, blog entries, and anything else written by others.

What do I hope to get out of this? Perhaps some evidence that reading has made me feel whole.
